Over the weekend, I posted up some new photos to the Photo Feed. In this small set are a bunch of drawings I like to call REED-iculous RICHARDS. Take a look and see why!
Launching Today! Trip City!
Today marks the launch of a new web initiative I am part of called Trip City. A Brooklyn-Filtered Literary Arts Salon, Trip City's membership draws from a broad spectrum of concerns and disciplines. Comics, photography, music, prose, art and illustration all have a home there thanks to the site's diverse membership. I have the good fortune of working alongside talented friends and colleagues like Dean Haspiel, Seth Kushner, Nick Abadzis, Kevin Colden, Nick Bertozzi, Jen Ferguson, Amy Finkel, Jennifer Hayden, Chris Miskiewicz, Jeff UK, and Ron Scalzo. Already at the site, you will find Seth Kushner's Culture Pop profile of author and creator of the hit television show, Jonathan Ames. Already at the site are new comics by Kevin Colden and Chris Miskiewicz, art from the two Nicks (Abadzis and Bertozzi) and the two Jennifers (Ferguson and Hayden) and a full length podcast with founding members of Trip City as well as an interview with Michael Moore!
So please head on over to Trip City and share your thoughts through our comments section, like it on Facebook and if so inclined, tweet about it. Your thoughts and support are a big part of why we do this. Thank you.
MARATHON. The Race is Won!
In other words, MARATHON, the book I've been working on with writer Boaz Yakin for First Second, is now done! The experience of doing this book was difficult and exhilarating. When I first began work on it, I very much felt that my skills were not up to the task and it took a long time before I settled into it. It wasn't long after that that I encountered health problems associated with stress and the ergonomics of my workstation. Months of physical therapy kept me in the race until I was able to get back into it at full speed. I can now look back on the project as a whole and say that it's easily my best work to date and look forward to next year's release with a great deal of optimism. Thanks for being there throughout the process. I'll continue to post news and images from the book leading up to its release in June 2012.
MUSH! Advance Praise!
Graphic Novel Reporter has selected MUSH! as part of their Great Graphic Novels of Fall 2011! Thanks GNR! MUSH! Has also been positively reviewed in the PW Review for September 26:
Eichler and Infurnari tell a simple but layered story, laced with an insightful appreciation of the great gulf that exists between our species and life’s comic absurdity.
MUSH! Sled Dogs with Issues will be available in stores December 6th. Don't you dare miss it!
MARATHON Coloring is Finished!
Phew! With the end of coloring for MARATHON, the bulk of the heavy lifting is done and boy am I relieved! Now all that's left to do is the sound effects and the cover. Stay tooned as I'll be posting updates on those as well. Thanks for the bananas and gatorade, folks!
This Wednesday! Twisted Savage Dragon Funnies!
Wednesday July 20th from 6-8pm, I'll be signing alongside a bevy of amazing cartoonists at Jim Hanley's Universe. Why!? To celebrate the release of Twisted Savage Dragon Funnies, of course! You can read that large graphic above, can't you!? Well on it you'll see a long list of limning luminaries who'll happily delineate their moniker on your freshly purchased copy. I promise I won't talk like this in person. Hope to see you there!
Jim Hanley's is located at:
4 West 33rd St., New York, New York (opposite The Empire State Building) (212) 268-7088

MARATHON Inks: 15 Pages to Go!
After crossing the 100 page mark a while ago, I've been reluctant to signal the final countdown for the inks. Now that there is only 15 pages left, I think it's safe to say I'm on the home stretch. But hark there's more! Oh yes, this is only one leg of the journey! Stay tooned for colors and lettering! Oh, and don't forget to hand me a cup of water now and then, too.
More Loony Sharpie Doodles!
Now we're getting somewhere! After a few doodles where I started to incorporate larger areas of color, this one takes it to its logical conclusion and makes the whole drawing a patchwork of color. That then becomes a ground on which I do a bunch of doodles in darker marker. Those doodles themselves merge to form some sort of skull! Pretty nifty! The other doodle like this is below the cut.
In this drawing I've taken the same approach but this time I included the dark blue marker as part of the color patches. The other line drawings over top are done in brown, black and silver markers. I think the skull drawing ties first one together in way that isn't happening here. This is just a rather random assortment of motifs and elements. I probably had to do this drawing before I could go ahead with the next batch. They are more successful that this and I'll be posting them up very soon. Thanks for reading!
