John Cale was a multi-instrumentalist whose versatility and aesthetics were essential to crafting the innovative sound of The Velvet Underground. His musical expertise was brought in to harness and produce The Stooges’ free-form raucous sound on their first album; perhaps the very first Punk Rock record. Iggy Pop as The Fool represents all the potential energy of Punk, but until The Magician first gives it form, it is never real.
